Hope Chronicle 9/52: Erique Berry

EriqueBerry2

Sweet. Strong. Sensational.

Erique Berry is not your ordinary baker! I first met Erique in college and she is the epitome of what it means to be sweet. A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, “Ms. Berry” as her students would refer to her is a woman of many talents! When she’s not in the classroom working to empower and educate the next generation of doctors, lawyers, educators, leaders, artists, comedians, actors and bakers, she’s in the kitchen whipping up amazing creations that literally leave her clients speechless.

After making desserts for friends and family at various events over the past couple of years, Erique decided that she would “upgrade” her hobby and perfect her craft. Enrolling in a cake decorating class at the local community college in Charlotte, NC, she decided to take the leap and turn her passion into a profession. It’s no wonder why her business has been so successful thus far and is off to a great start! When you speak with her, she is always positive, encouraging and her smile radiates the world! With a personality like hers, everyone leaves her presence with an ounce of joy and lots of love. Sometimes you wonder; “What encourages people like Erique to always show high levels of positivity even in the face of adversity?”

When we asked her to share with us one of the greatest setbacks that she’s ever experienced, she opened up about an experience that no one ever wants to go through.

When Erique was just 21 years old, she lost her mother. Her number #1 fan. Her motivation. Her inspiration. Her best friend. She never imagined that she would have to live life without her so soon, but even in the face of this tragic loss, Erique showed so much strength.

“From that experience I learned that God always has a plan and it is a plan to prosper and not to harm me, plans to give me hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). I use my experience of losing my mother to give others the courage to continue when you lose the one you love most…”

What an amazing testimony of faith, hope and courage. There is something to be said about someone who is able to look tragedy, adversity and disappointment in the face and defiantly tell it that it will not have victory over their lives. What kind of woman is she that she would be blessed with such strength? A woman who is full of power. A woman who is destined for greatness. It is so evident, after hearing her story of hope, that Erique is an inspiration to everyone that she meets. As sweet as her decadent delights, she is also a beacon of light to everyone that she encounters.

Erique believes that hope is “Remembering the past victories, living the in present victories and believing in future victories.”

Indeed Erique. Indeed!  What’s your #HopeChronicle?
